Who Should Apply

You do not need to know anything yet.

Stream A is for anyone who is curious about how technology works and willing to learn. No laptops, no coding experience, no qualifications required — just genuine interest and commitment to show up every day.

🤔
You are curious about technology

You have wondered how websites work, how apps are built, or how companies manage their data. That curiosity is exactly enough to start.

🎯
You want a real career, not a short course

You are looking for something that leads to actual employment — not a certificate that sits in a drawer. This programme ends with job-ready skills and an employment pipeline.

🌍
You want to earn globally from South Africa

Cloud and DevOps skills let you work remotely for international companies and earn in foreign currency while living at home. This is one of the few careers where geography is no longer a ceiling.

💪
You are willing to commit fully

This is a full-time, residential programme. You live on the farm, you study, you work. It is not easy — but it is completely supported and completely funded.

📚
You have not finished school yet

No problem. Every resident completes two school grades in Year 1 alongside farm life. You arrive wherever you are — we will get you to where you need to be.

🚀
You want to go as far as your talent takes you

The optional Advanced Year lets you specialise deeply and achieve professional certifications. There is no ceiling on what you can become if you are willing to put in the work.

The Curriculum

Built by engineers.
Taught by engineers.

Our IT curriculum is not adapted from a generic training provider. It was designed specifically for Hope Horizon by Quantum Horizon engineers — the same people who build and manage database infrastructure, cloud platforms, and DevOps pipelines for major South African enterprises.

Every module includes hands-on project work. You do not just learn concepts — you build things, deploy things, and break things in a safe environment. By the end of Year 1, you have a real portfolio of deployed work.

The Advanced Year is optional. Residents who complete Year 1 and want to go deeper can specialise in one of three tracks: Cloud Engineering, Cybersecurity, or Full-Stack Development.

Computer Fundamentals & Linux
How computers work, operating systems, the Linux command line, file systems, and basic scripting.
Months 1–2
CompTIA A+
Networking Essentials
TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, routing, switching, firewalls, and VPNs. How data moves across networks.
Months 2–3
CompTIA N+
Cloud Fundamentals
Introduction to AWS — compute, storage, networking, IAM, and the core services every cloud engineer uses daily.
Months 3–5
AWS Cloud Practitioner
Python & Scripting
Python basics, automation scripts, working with APIs, and writing code that solves real problems.
Months 4–6
Databases
SQL, relational database design, PostgreSQL and MySQL — querying, managing, and understanding data at scale.
Months 6–8
DevOps Foundations & Git
Version control, CI/CD pipelines, Docker containers, and the fundamentals of modern software delivery.
Months 8–10
Capstone Project
Deploy a real application on AWS using everything learned. This becomes the centrepiece of your portfolio.
Months 10–12

After Year 1 you will have:

  • AWS Cloud Practitioner certification
  • CompTIA A+ and Network+ preparation
  • A deployed portfolio project on AWS
  • A professional CV and GitHub profile
  • Access to the Quantum Horizon employment pipeline

Choose one specialisation track for your Advanced Year. All three lead to professional-level certification and significantly higher earning potential.

Track A — Cloud Engineering
Advanced AWS architecture, Terraform Infrastructure as Code, multi-region deployments, cost optimisation, and cloud security.
AWS Solutions Architect
Track B — Cybersecurity
Threat analysis, penetration testing fundamentals, security operations, incident response, and compliance frameworks.
CompTIA Security+
Track C — Full-Stack Development
React, Node.js, REST APIs, database integration, and deploying production web applications end to end.
Portfolio + GitHub
Advanced Project & Industry Placement
A real-world project working alongside Quantum Horizon engineers on live client infrastructure — the closest thing to a job before you have one.
Industry Experience

After Year 2 you will have:

  • Professional-level specialisation certification
  • Real industry project experience
  • Full professional proficiency in your chosen track
  • Priority placement with Quantum Horizon clients

Where You Can Go

Real roles. Real salaries. Real careers.

These are the types of roles our graduates will be equipped for after completing the programme. Entry-level IT in South Africa pays significantly above the national median — and cloud skills unlock international remote work.

☁️
Junior Cloud Engineer

Managing cloud infrastructure on AWS or Azure — storage, compute, networking, and monitoring. Entry salary R15,000–R25,000/month in South Africa. Remote roles often pay in USD or GBP.

🗄️
Junior Database Administrator

Managing PostgreSQL, MySQL, or SQL Server databases — backups, performance, and reliability. High demand across banking, retail, and healthcare. R14,000–R22,000/month entry level.

⚙️
Junior DevOps Engineer

Building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines, automating deployments, and keeping systems reliable. One of the fastest-growing roles in SA tech. R18,000–R28,000/month entry level.

The Income Step-Change

Why IT changes everything.

IT skills deliver one of the largest income step-changes of any career path accessible to someone starting from nothing. Here is what the numbers look like in South Africa.

National Median Income
R3,500
per month · no qualifications
Junior IT Graduate · Year 1
R15,000–R25,000
per month · after 12 months training
Senior Cloud / DevOps · 3 Years
R45,000–R80,000
per month · SA or remote international

Figures are approximate market rates as of 2025/2026. Remote international roles may pay in USD or GBP at significantly higher rates.
